Play Parks for Hayling's blog

Update 3 June 2016

On Wednesday we gave the go ahead to a lower quotation to refurbish the Skate Board Park. We had four quotes in the end. They will start within a time frame of 6/8 weeks. We really hope that the work will be completed by the summer holidays, but we couldn't authorise the work until all the funding was in place. Excited that this will happen soon, the older children will be so pleased.

The HBC Community Team have been supporting us again with their expertise and advice.

Update 18 April 2016 from Leah Turner

The mural on the back wall is completed, thus finishing the work in Mengham Park. It looks wonderful and we are very grateful to the SEHCO charity for completing this for us.

After speaking to local children, we are now fundraising to renovate the Skate Park on Hayling Seafront. The local children tell us that the dirt jumps are not popular anymore, so it would not be worth spending money on them. The Skate Park is as well used as ever though, but the weather is affecting the metal and the whole area needs renovating.

Update from Leah Turner 28 January 2016

This morning Andy, Debbie and I met The Southern Co-op at Mengham Play Park, where a cheque for £25,000 was presented to us for Play Parks for Hayling. Children from Hayling College joined us to pose for a Southern Co-op photographer.

PP4H have now today paid the balance of the sum owed to HBC for the playground equipment which was loaned to us interest free, to enable us to open the play park last August.

Update 5 Oct from Leah Turner

Since my last post, quite a lot has been happening behind the scenes of our PP4H project.

As everyone knows, the revamped play park opened on 16 August, after delays caused by the equipment provider. We were however able to negotiate a £600 reduction in the costs due to this delay.

The children all seen delighted with the new park, but of course we have the finishing touches to do.

Update - 27 July - from Cllr Leah Turner

Today I have received notification from the Southern Co-op that the monies raised for PP4H this year so far, now total £16,370.84. The fundraising for us from their Community Fund continues to mid December 2015. I am hopeful that we will reach the target of £25,000 by this time.

I had a lovely surprise yesterday! When I went to a Hayling for St George meeting at The Lifeboat yeaterday, Hayley Wallage gave me an envelope with £130 that she had raised for PP4H. Hayley you are a star, thank you. x

Update - 24 July

This is our new Play area at Mengham Park as of 9.45am on Friday 24/7/15.

The workmen will carry on today and possibly tomorrow until all the equipment is installed. This will only be part 1 completed though. Part 2 Next Tuesday 28/7/15 the area will be Tarmaced, then the following Tuesday the wet pore will be put down.

Part 3 the final one, the following week will be the ROSPA inspection, then we can open.

We are hopeful that we will open on Saturday 15/8/15 and will confirm this as soon as we know.

Update - June 12

Very pleased to say that the contractors for the refurbishment on Mengham Park will be starting work next Monday 15/6/15.

We are still hopeful of a grand re opening in early August. Let's now hope for a) Good weather for the work. b) Nothing untoward found when the digging starts.

We will keep everyone in the loop as work progresses.

Our project manger is the HBC open spaces officer, in whose hands the project is safe.

Please share with anyone who may be interested.
